Assignment 2: Creating a Game

1.1 – Platform Game

Max








Main character, Max, created using Adobe Photoshop, with a canvas size of 32x32 pixels, and a transparent background.






File extension, when creating it was .PSD. But when I put it into GameMaker, I saved it as a .PNG, compressing the file size.

I named the file “Platform Max V3”. “Platform” so I knew which game the sprite was for. “Max” for the character, and “V3” for which version it is. In this case, the third.

Tools I used:
Eye dropper tool to select a colour from the canvas, to ensure I use the same colour on the
sprite.

Pen tool, to draw and fill the sprite.

Colour palette, to fine tune the colour I wish to use.















I created Max using 1 layer.



Enemies:


























































Enemies, created using Adobe Photoshop, with a canvas size of 32x32 pixels, and a transparent background.

I named the files “Platform Police 1/2/Thugs”. “Platform” so I knew which game the sprite was for,
“Police/Thugs” so I knew the type of enemy, and “1 or 2” for which Police enemy.

Eye dropper tool to select a colour from the canvas, to ensure I use the same colour on the
sprite.


Pen tool, to draw and fill the sprite. I also changed the opacity of the pen tool for the window, from 100% to 40%.

Colour palette, to fine tune the colour I wish to use.

I used 2 layers when creating it in Photoshop.



























Floor:

Diamond Collectable:

Money Bag:

I named the file “Platform Money Bag”. “Platform” so I knew which game the sprite was for, and “Money Bag” for  what the sprite is.

Rectangle shape tool to draw a square on the first
design of the bag.


I used 1 layer to create the money bag.























Background:





























Warehouse background, created using Adobe Photoshop, with a canvas size of 1080x720 pixels.

I named the file “Platform Background”. “Platform” so I knew which game the sprite was for.

Eye dropper tool to select a colour from the canvas, to ensure I use the same colour on the
sprite.


Pen tool, to draw and fill the sprite.

Gradient tool, to get a two-tone colour. Set up so the middle of the background is a slightly darker brown than the top and bottom.

Colour palette, to fine tune the colour I wish to use.

Rectangle shape tool to draw a square on the first design of the bag.

I used 1 layer for the brown background,
Around 60-70 layers for the rectangles for boxes/windows.
